GRIREM and its predecessor devoted to the research and development of luminescent materials for more than 40 years. It is one of the earliest units engaged in the research and development of rare earth phosphors and has the only "Rare Earth Phosphor Pilot Laboratory".

In this field, we has totally applied for 66 Chinese invention patents, 2 Chinese utility model patents, 2 Taiwan patents and 21 PCT patents. Among them, 24 Chinese invention patents, 2 utility model patents and 2 US patents, 2 Japanese patents, 3 Korean patents were authorized, a total of 113 scientific papers were published, of which 68 were included in the SCI. It has won one Chinese patent excellence award, three provincial and ministerial level first prize, four second prize and three third prize. Its products won the "Golden LED Engineering Award" for two consecutive years.

At present, the main research directions include:

1) Luminescent materials for lighting: fluorescent materials for white LEDs and luminescent materials for metal halide lamps

2) Luminescent Materials for Display: Fluorescent Materials for PDP, Fluorescent Materials for FED, Fluorescent Materials for LCD Backlight

3) Special luminescent materials: upconversion luminescent materials, anti-counterfeit fluorescent materials, nano luminescent materials

4) High purity anhydrous rare earth halide for optical crystal
