GRIREM and its predecessor has been engaged in research and development high purity rare earth metals and their alloys for about 50 years, it is one of the first enterprises for preparation and purification of rare earth metals and their alloys. Grirem is the first to prepare 16 individual rare earth metals except promethium in 1960’s, and gradually realized the batch production of rare earth metals and their alloys, high purity rare earth metals, special rare earth functional basic materials, etc., and have made outstanding contributions to the establishment and improvement China’s rare earth industrial system.

Grirem has undertake 16 major scientific research projects, including National Programs for Science and Technology Development, National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), National Natural Science Foundation of China, in the field of rare earth metals and their alloys, applied 38 China creative patents, 13 of which have been authorized. Grirem has won more than 30 prizes of science and technology awards, including 1 second prize of national technology invention award, 3 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 9 third prizes of provincial and ministerial science or technology awards, 4 national key new products.

Major directions of research are as follows: 

1) High efficient batch production technology and equipments for high purity rare earth metal

2) Large scale energy saving and intelligent control molten salt electrolysis technology and related equipment

3) Preparation technology of high quality rare earth metal and special alloy target
