GRIREM has been engaged in the preparation of rare earth compound materials since the 1970’s, and first developed a series of rare earth polishing materials production technology. The "739", "771" and other series of rare earth polishing products were developed, which was regarded as the foundation of China's rare earth polishing industry system.

In the field, GRIREM has undertaken more than 20 national projects, including the 863 plan, national science and technology support plan, the national development and reform commission, the ministry of industry and information technology, and the national natural science foundation of Beijing. There are 25 patents for invention (6 international patents), 15 of which have been authorized (2 international patents). GRIREM has accessd to China nonferrous metal industry science and technology progress award second prize 2 times, third prize 1 time, forth prize 3 times, Beijing Xicheng district science and technology progress award first prize 1 time. The main research directions include:

1) Preparation of ultrapure and special materials of rare earth compounds

2) The precursor preparation technology of high performance rare earth compound functional materials

3) Rare earth compound green synthetic process and equipment

4) Rare earth plastic, ceramics and other functional auxiliaries

5) Rare earth surface chemical treatment agent
